250+ hours of Ashtanga yoga teacher training prepares you to work with flow yoga (Vinyasa) or the dynamic form of yoga that promises immense physical and mental health benefits. The course focuses on shaping teachers who are capable of instilling strength, balance and a sense of rhythm in the body of their students. Yogacharya Bharath Shetty, who possesses almost 60,000 hours of teaching experience, of which 33,000 hours are recognized by Yoga Alliance, has exclusively designed the teaching methodologies imparted in the course.

Ashtanga yoga teacher training course encompasses beginner and intermediate yoga poses in IndeaYoga style, meditation, pranayama, anatomy lessons and Patanjali Yoga Sutras. After the intensive training period of 4-weeks, you receive IndeaYoga Training (IYT250+) and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) certificates approved by Yoga Alliance, U.S. Something more rewarding than that is you discover the teacher residing inside you completely ready and confident to teach other people about what you know. Yoga Dhaama is an exclusive hermitage for IndeaYoga’s teacher training programs. The comprehensive fully residential course is a one-stop solution for all your yoga requirements, making your experience in Mysore fruitful and comfortable. Located just 5 kms away from the city center, the Yoga Dhaama is attached to a beautiful yoga park, which the trainees will be allowed to use during the free hours for meditation, pranayama and walks.

Food - Organic, Vegetarian and Sattvik


The food provided here is Sattvic and only vegetarian. The food menu is standardized and students will be provided with 3 meals every day. The food served is mainly organic and nutritional, keeping in mind the requirements of the students practice. All meals will be served in the Dining Hall only and students will not be allowed to eat in the rooms. Fruits and other snacks will be available in the premises which can be bought by the students. Coffee and Tea will also be available throughout the day!

NOTE: Your stay will also include a savory Gala Dinner at an Indian Home.




Pick up and drop facility from the airport to Yoga Dhaama will be arranged for the students on additional charges. For local travel needs, a Travel Desk facility will be made available, at the reception, to all students.

Cycles will also be available, which can be rented by the students for small weekend rides! If a student still has some energy and time left after his/her practice and study.

Chanting & Prayer

A congenial atmosphere plays a vital role in the accomplishment of any task that we undertake. Prayers, in the form of shlokas create such congenial atmosphere before practicing yoga. When chanted or sung with feeling, prayers create an atmosphere for learning. It also releases emotional suppression, which is one of the root causes of most of the problems and ailments in this modern era.



It requires that the students applying for this course have at least 6 months of Ashtanga yoga practice. (You may as well practice under IndeaYoga certified teachers available close to your location). If this is not the case, you may enroll yourself for the Ashtanga Yoga Mysore Style Classes before you start your course in teacher training. Priority will be given to our past students and IndeaYoga practitioners.


Course Curriculum

Asana Practice and Technique

One will attend two strong asana practices per day. Morning asanas cover Ashtanga Vinyasa primary or Preparatory series. Afternoon practices will primarily incorporate Indea Innovation series - back bending, hip opening and balancing asanas. Teachers are also engaged in understanding the key points in teaching certain asanas to students

Teaching of all three series is thoroughly imparted in the following structure by Bharath Shetty, and students are expected to know this detail for each asana by the end of the course and for the exam.

Teaching practice

Applying the above 8-step teaching methodology, students will have taught several sessions by teaching the other TTC students in a classroom setting. Students will also be required to sit-in and observe Bharath and other IndeaYoga teachers who present the Mysore style classes. The aim is for students to gain knowledge of the methodology of teaching that includes the principles of demonstration, instructions and observation.

Prayers (Slokas) and Chanting (Kirtan)

Students are expected to learn the prescribed opening and closing prayers, their meanings, and also familiarize themselves with chanting few other mantras and Kirtans.


A selection of pranayama techniques will be taught and practiced during the course.


Anatomy includes the study of physical human body anatomy, the skeleton, organs and muscles, cardiovascular system, and nutrition.

Philosophy and Ethics

This part includes the basics from the study of yoga scriptures, ethics for yoga teachers and life of a yogi and includes:

a) Meaning of the word “Yoga”

b) Raja Yoga of Patanjali

c) Panchakoshas

d) Overview of Chakras

e) Overview of Patanjali Yoga Sutras and “Ashtanga (eight-fold) Yoga”, with a more detailed Satsang on selected sutras from chapters 1 (Samādhi Pāda) and 2 (Sādhana Pāda) of the sutras.


Self-study, study of recommended books, participating in discussion and practice of all the above-mentioned topics is also expected from each student during the four weeks.

Trip through the Golden Triangle

The institute organizes a trip to Belur-Halebidu-Shravana Belagola, where you can get a glimpse of India’s ancient architecture and cultural heritage. The trip is optional and is exclusive of the course fee.

> What is the duration of the IYT250Hrs+ (Level 1)?

The duration of the IYT250Hrs+ is 4 full weeks. Classes will be conducted from Monday to Saturday. Sunday is a rest day.

> How many students are accepted in each intake?

IndeaYoga only accepts a maximum of 24 students per course.

> How do I qualify to enroll for IYT250Hrs+ (Level 1)?

Any regular yoga practitioner with an experience of approximately 6 months to one year or have completed Indea Yoga Foundation Course (Mysore Style – 4 weeks) can enroll for IYT250 Hrs+.

> What is the language used in the course?

English only.

> Will there be a written and a practical exam at the end of the course?

Yes, you will be assessed in both written and teaching evaluation exams at the end of the course. The assessment exams are structured to meet the standards of the Yoga Alliance.

> What accreditation will I receive after completing the IYT250Hrs+ (Level 1)?

Upon meeting the attendance and disciplinary requirements of the IYT250Hrs+ and Yoga Alliance, and upon passing your written and teaching evaluation exams, you will receive the 200-Hour Yoga Alliance certification from IndeaYoga.

> Will a course manual be provided?

Yes, you will be provided with a training manual. You will also receive an optional list of additional/ recommended reading titles, which you can purchase from bookstores here in Mysore.

> What am I required to bring along for the course?

Apart from your own travel and daily necessities, please ensure that you bring along your own yoga mat, notebook and some pens for all the sessions.

> What if I don’t want to become a yoga teacher after completing the IYT250Hrs+?

There are always a small number of students who take the 200-hour Yoga Alliance IYT250Hrs+ without the set goal of becoming a teacher. Their reasons for this approach includes desire to go deeper in their personal practice and to gain real knowledge and experience of immersing in a yogic lifestyle, under the guidance and tutelage of a yoga master.

Whatever your personal goals are, IndeaYoga always welcomes you open-heartedly.

> Where can I stay during the training?

> What if I have to miss a few days or hours?

Due to the intensive nature of the course, you are required to be available for the entire duration of your training. Punctuality is very important. On-site hours meet and surpass the Yoga Alliance minimum and categories of training. In addition, we encourage you to lead a yogic lifestyle throughout your course of study. It is not advisable to schedule other activities or take other part-time courses during the IYT250Hrs+. We have set aside this whole time to be with you and expect and you to dedicate yourself for the whole duration.
